THAILAND convention & exhibition bureauMICE Report

The MICE industry is reported to bring in multiple benefits, from a contribution to national GDP to brand awareness of destinations and knowledge transfer, to name a few. In general, the benefits from the MICE industry can be grouped into benefits from visitors' spending, trade and investment and knowledge transfer.

In fact,
the benefits of the MICE industry to Thailand can be viewed as direct and indirect benefits, divided into three tiers according to related stakeholders.

The Primary benefits are direct interest from international meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibitions where venues, organizers (Professional Convention Organizers, Professional Exhibition Organizers, and Destination Management Companies), hotels, participants and visitors gain from the service fees, space and facilities rental fees, bonded customs area rental fees, technological and knowledge transfer, and networking, for example.

The Secondary benefits are indirect benefits from international meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibitions. The contractors, freight forwarders, exhibitors, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, tour agents, shopping centers, transportation and communication, banks and temporary staff will reap the benefits from decoration fees, designing fees, construction fees, service fees, continuing business after the event, hotel room charges from participants and their accompanying persons, food and beverages charges, shows and entertainment payments, tours service charges, souvenirs sales, transportation and communication services, fees from facilitating money transfer, currency exchange and financial transactions, and employment opportunities. accordingly.

The Tertiary benefits are multiple benefits from international meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibitions in both calculable and non-calculable financial terms. These include technology and knowledge transfer, international trade, jobs creation, production and consumption enhancement as well as the impact from communicating positive images to international audiences especially at world-class conventions.

In fact, MICE industry is reported to contribute 10.7% annual income to that received from tourism overall, which adds an average of 6.5% annual income to Thailand's GDP.
The notion of these benefits of the industry to the country, together with figures indicating industry growth from 2004, as well as the average industry growth of 15-20% per annum, are amongst the prominent factors that affirm Thailand's continuing support for the industry. Some of the factors that make Thailand attractive include Thailand's "ease of doing business" ranking by World Bank, "country and city ranking in Asia Pacific and Middle East by number of meetings per city" from International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), and "World's Best City award" by Travel & Leisure magazine.
